Alice in Chains: Music Bank – The Videos - $9.99 Though Alice in Chains has been on hold since the latter part of the ’90s due to drug relapses and band arguments, these grunge founders have managed to stay on people’s minds. Since riding in on the wave that Kurt Cobain and Nirvana made with the introduction of grunge, Alice in Chains has amassed a following that is at times baffling. Having only produced three full length albums, it hardly seems necessary for the band to have a boxed set released, but apparently the public wanted something new from Layne Staley and Jerry Cantrell. Not having any new material to offer, it seems the folks at Columbia Music and Video put their heads together and decided to let Alice in Chains ride another wave, the box set wave. Video Bank is meant to accompany the audio release of Music Bank. While Music Bank is a compilation of most of the songs already released by Alice in Chains in alternate mixes and demo versions, Video Bank is a collection of all the band’s videos and a short ten minute compilation of home video shot by the band. Though many people may not be impressed with a three CD set of songs they already own, they just may be impressed by the videos contained on Video Bank. This compilation includes the videos for Man in a Box, Heaven Beside You, and Them Bones, all of which saw heavy rotation on MTV. It also includes hidden gems like two separate video versions of The Rooster and We Die Young, as well as lesser seen videos for hits such as Angry Chair and Down in a Hole. If you are an Alice in Chains fan and are looking for something fresh from the band, then Video Bank is a worthy investment. ~ Ed Atkinson, Rovi |

Pantera: 3 Vulgar Videos From Hell [2 Discs] – Dolby $21.99 Includes:Pantera: Cowboys from Hell – The Videos (1991) For Those About to Rock: Monsters in Moscow (1992), MPAA Rating: R Pantera: Vulgar Video (1993) Pantera: 3 Watch It Go (1997) Pantera: Cowboys from Hell – The Videos This collection from Atlantic features hard-edged metal group Pantera performing some of their best-known songs in music videos and footage from live shows. Released in 1991, Pantera: Cowboys From Hell includes videos for the songs “Cowboys From Hell,” “Cemetery Gates,” and “Psycho Holiday” and renditions of “Art of Shredding,” and “Heresy” shot at a September 1990 concert in Los Angeles. The program also includes interviews with the band members and exclusive home video footage. ~ Matthew Tobey, Rovi For Those About to Rock: Monsters in Moscow In September 1991, only a few days after an attempted military coup failed to restore Communism to the newly democratic Russia and its affiliated nations, 500,000 rock music fans converged in Moscow to enjoy the first open-air rock festival to be held in the former Soviet Union. For Those About to Rock: Monsters in Moscow features performances from AC/DC, Metallica, the Black Crowes, and Pantera; along with the music, the video also offers a look at the efforts by the Russian army to postpone the concert, as well as the violent behavior of some of the soldiers assigned to act as security. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi Pantera: Vulgar Video Southern heavy metal bruisers Pantera developed a well-earned reputation for delivering some of the hardest and heaviest rock and roll of the 1990’s, and this home video release captures both the sound and fury of Pantera in full assault mode. Pantera: Vulgar Video includes promotional clips for the songs “Mouth For War”, “This Love” and “Walk”, live performances of “Primal Concrete Sledge” and “Domination”, and behind-the-scenes footage of Pantera on the road. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi Pantera: 3 Watch It Go One of the most aggressive — and most popular — heavy metal bands to rise to popularity in the 1990’s, Pantera offer up this collection of all their loud ‘n’ proud videos on this DVD release, including Cowboys From Hell, I’m Broken, Drag The Waters, Mouth For War, and Primal Concrete Sledge. In addition, Pantera: 3 – Vulgar Videos from Hell also includes bonus footage of the band in concert at the Moscow Monsters of Rock Festival, and interviews with all four members taped on the road. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi |
